The History of CBD

It may seem new, but CBD goes back many millennia.
About CBD

The Cannabis plant is one of the oldest recorded plants used to improve or treat health conditions, disorders, and illnesses in humans. Though it is not a proven cure for any ailments, an increasing number of scientific studies are being done to bring the positive effects of the plant to light.

For the past 12,000+ years, the Cannabis plant, which hemp (aka CBD) is derived from, has been naturally cultivated for medicinal, recreational, and functional use. Some researchers even argue that it has played a big role in modernizing many Western countries, such as the United States. According to PBS, “it was so fundamental to America’s foundation that its image was printed on money.”

In 2018, the Farm Bill, a legislative policy under the control of Congress and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), legalized the production and sale of hemp and its extracts (e.g. CBD), as long as it contains less than 0.3% THC. The final provisions of this bill are expected to be implemented by the end of 2019 by the USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS). Until then, all production of hemp for sale continues to be regulated under Section 7606 of the 2014 Farm Bill.

The Farm Bill is renewed by Congress every 4-5 years and continues to advance the production of hemp. Because of this bill, more and more people are benefiting from the positive effects of CBD and other hemp extracts.

What’s Next for CBD?

Today, well-known organizations and government programs continue to conduct and fund research on the benefits of CBD use in adult humans. Further research by trusted sources, such as the World Health Organization and ASPCA’s Animal Poison Control Center, are already unearthing major health benefits of CBD use in pediatric and animal cases. With convenient access to the latest research and licensed medical professionals, we predict that CBD will continue to revolutionize the health and wellness industry for many years to come.
